Landgraf Wins DoE Office of Science Graduate Student Research Program Award

Thursday, May 15 2025

Graduate student Claire Landgraf was awarded a Department of Energy Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) Program award.  She will work with Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL) Scientist Leah Broussard and Ph.D. advisor Professor Stefan Baeßler on the determination of the coupling constants in weak interactions with the Nab experiment. That experiment has started to take data at the Spallation Neutron Source at ORNL (see here for strong UVa support). For Claire's SCGSR project, she will characterize the backgrounds in Nab with Nab's own and auxiliary detectors, determine how it affects the data taken, and perhaps suggest improvements to the setup that reduce its impact.
